Roberto Valli is a PhD candidate at the International Conflict Research group. He holds an MA degree in Comparative and International Studies from ETH Zurich and a BA degree in International Affairs from the University of St. Gallen. In 2022, he visited UC Berkeley's Institute for Eastern, European and Eurasian Studies.

His main research interests concern the origins and consequences of political identities. His dissertation project studies how border change and war contributed to the formation of national identities in modern Europe. In his research, he relies on observational data and computational methods to study nationalist and ethnic processes in new settings and with innovative research designs. In co-authored projects, he also researches the dynamics of public opinion and religious clientelism.
